What order should I apply skincare in?

Thinnest to thickest: cleanser, then toner or thermal water, then serum, then eye cream, then moisturiser, then sunscreen in the morning or facial oil at night. If a product's own directions differ, follow those.

Bakuchiol or retinol — which should I choose?

Retinol has the deeper research base for visible change but commonly causes dryness and flaking during the first weeks, and is not used during pregnancy. Bakuchiol is a plant-derived alternative marketed as gentler, with a smaller body of evidence and generally milder results. If your skin is reactive or you are pregnant or breastfeeding, bakuchiol is the usual starting point — confirm with your midwife or doctor.

Do I need sunscreen in Sweden in winter?

UVB is very low in Nordic winter, so sunburn risk is minimal. UVA persists year-round and contributes to skin ageing, and reflected light from snow raises exposure significantly on bright days, especially at altitude. Daily sunscreen matters most from roughly March to September, plus any snow-sport days.

Mineral or chemical sunscreen?

Mineral filters such as zinc oxide sit on the skin and work immediately, but can leave a white cast. Chemical filters absorb into the top layer, feel lighter and blend invisibly, but need a short wait before exposure. Both are effective at their stated SPF — the better choice is the one you will reapply.

How do I patch test a new product?

Apply a small amount to the inner forearm or behind the ear once daily for three to five days and watch for redness, itching or bumps. Patch test anything containing acids, retinoids or essential oils, and introduce one active product at a time so you can tell what caused a reaction.
