What is the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant?

Deodorant targets odour — it works on the bacteria that break down sweat, usually with antibacterial agents and fragrance. Antiperspirant reduces the sweat itself, using aluminium salts that temporarily block sweat ducts. If your problem is wetness, a deodorant will not solve it, however natural it is.

Are aluminium salts in antiperspirants safe?

Regulatory bodies including the EU's cosmetic safety committee have reviewed aluminium in antiperspirants and permit its use at specified concentrations. The widely circulated links to breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease are not supported by the evidence. That said, plenty of people prefer to avoid them, and aluminium-free options exist — that is a reasonable personal preference rather than a safety requirement.

Why does natural deodorant sometimes cause irritation?

Often bicarbonate of soda, which raises skin pH in an area that is naturally slightly acidic. Some people tolerate it indefinitely; others develop redness after a few weeks. Magnesium-based and bicarb-free formulas are the usual alternative. Fragrance and essential oils are the other common trigger.

Does "48H" or "72H" protection really last that long?

Those figures come from standardised laboratory testing under controlled conditions, not from a promise about your specific day. Heat, exercise, stress and showering all shorten real-world performance. Treat them as a relative indicator of strength between products rather than a literal guarantee.

When should I apply antiperspirant?

At night, on clean dry skin — which surprises most people. Sweat glands are least active overnight, giving the active time to form its plug, and it survives the morning shower. Applying to freshly shaved or damp skin is the most common cause of stinging.
